8	""	1974	Election of the rector Nicola Cilento	"Nicola Cilento was an Italian historian and medievalist, rector of the University of Salerno from 1974 to 1977, and a scholar of Langobardia Minor. He attended the Faculty of Arts at the University of Naples Federico II, where he graduated on November 28, 1940, with a degree in Classical Letters, discussing a thesis on Medieval History. He obtained his qualification to teach History and Philosophy in state high schools as early as 1941 and held teaching positions in these subjects for many years at the most notable high schools in Campania, such as the Bianchi of the Barnabite Fathers, Umberto I, the II Scientific High School, and the Nunziatella Military School, as well as the M. Galdi High School in Cava dei Tirreni. From 1969, he held the chair of history in the newly established Faculty of Arts at the University of Salerno, where he taught until his death in Naples on November 16, 1988. He also served as Director of the Institute of Philology and Medieval History and the associated Center for Medieval Archaeology named in his honor. He was also the Magnificent Rector of the Salernitan University during the three-year period of 1974-1977, initiating the planning of the new campus in Fisciano, which was later realized by his successors Vincenzo Buonocore and Roberto Racinaro. 11	""	1980	Election of the rector Vincenzo Buonocore	Vincenzo Buonocore, rector of the University of Salerno from October 1980 to July 1987, was an Italian jurist and politician, serving as a deputy in the X Legislature for the Christian Democracy party. He completed his university studies at the Faculty of Law at the University of Naples, graduating with honors in 1954 at the age of 22 with a thesis in commercial law. He became a lecturer in commercial law in 1960, and from 1962 he taught private law and commercial law at the Faculty of Law in Cagliari. After winning a competition for the position of extraordinary professor of commercial law, he became a full professor at the Faculty of Law in Cagliari on February 1, 1965. He served as the dean of the same faculty from 1967 to 1969. In 1969, he was invited to teach commercial law at the Faculty of Economics and Commerce at the University of Perugia, where he also held the position of director of the Institute of Commercial Law. In 1970, he was called to the Faculty of Law at the University of Perugia to teach private law, and from 1972 to 1974, he served as dean. In 1974, he moved to the Faculty of Economics and Commerce at the University of Naples, where he taught commercial law until 1978 and also served as the director of the Institute of Private Law. In 1978, he joined the Faculty of Law at the University of Salerno, where he taught private law and, starting in 1999, commercial law. He also covered, by substitution, the subjects of civil law in 1994 and the theory of interpretation in 1999. For many years, he taught the History of Philosophy and Political Philosophy at the University of Salerno. From 1987, he served as rector for eight years (from October 1987 to October 1989, from November 1989 to October 1992, and from November 1992 to June 1995). He was also a long-time coordinator of the doctoral program in ""Ethics and Political-Legal Philosophy"" which included international scholars. He graduated with a degree in Information Science from the University of Salerno in 1985 and earned a PhD in Computer Science from Universit Paris 6 in 1989. Loia is currently a Full Professor of Computer Science at the University of Salerno, where he previously worked as a researcher from 1989 to 2000 and as an Associate Professor from 2000 to 2004. He is the Editor-in-Chief of the international journal Ambient Intelligence and Humanized Computing and Co-Editor-in-Chief of Soft Computing, both published by Springer-Verlag. Additionally, he serves as an Associate Editor for IEEE Transaction Industrial Informatics and IEEE Transaction Systems, Man, and Cybernetics: Systems. Loia has held various leadership positions within the IEEE Computational Intelligence Society, including Chair of the Emergent Technologies Technical Committee (ETTC), Chair of Task Forces on ""Intelligent Agents"" and ""Ambient Intelligence,"" and Vice-Chair of the IEEE Intelligent Systems Applications Technical Committee. He has published over 200 scientific works, including conference proceedings, book chapters, and journal articles.
