During, the last years there is a growing global trend for systematically studying and opening data.\nThe European Commission is supporting open data initiatives through https://data.europe.eu where datasets are available under the category “regions and cities”. These datasets are referring to a variety of issues (e.g. Parking slots, election results, quality of life, environment).\nAt the skills development level, several organizations, HEIs and VET providers are offering courses and eLearning resources on open data development and exploitation. For example, data.europe.eu is offering a large number of open data eLearning modules. Similarly, USA federal CDO council in its strategy is defining the Federal Chief Data Officer position.\nOther organizations such as Open Data Institute are offering selected courses on the topic. These are a few of the many systematic training offerings available worldwide.\nEven though educational offerings on open data are available we are lacking:\n\nan occupational profile that is focusing on smart cities’ open data at the European level\na systematic curriculum able to cover all different aspects of an Open Data City Officer – OpenDCO.\nThe above two factors constitute the main contribution of this project which is considered quite important taking into account the impact open data may have on the economic growth of the European Cities.\n\nUp to now, little emphasis has been given to the way smart cities/municipalities are organized to decide upon such issues and even less on training the personnel on the new skills required. Smart cities development was mainly considered as a technological problem. However, today smart cities are viewed as ecosystems and an important aspect for their development is the availability of well-educated and qualified personnel. In this direction, the SmartDevOps project (https://smartdevops.eu) was a pioneer project, where three of the current project partners (UNIC, UTH and HOU) cooperated and successfully developed three new occupational profiles for smart cities. These profiles are smart city planner, smart city IT head and smart city IT expert.\n\nSubsequently, a new ERASMUS+ project named CRISIS was formed aiming at defining the occupational profile of Smart City Resilient Officer. Smart cities staff need to be educated and upskilled in the development and exploitation of open data leading to the need for a new job profile named “Open Data City Officer – OpenDCO”.","Start date":"2022-12-15T00:00:00","End date":"2024-12-14T00:00:00","Organisation name":"Πανεπιστήμιο Λευκωσίας","Organisation name ENG":"University of Nicosia","Organisation ID":999577726,"Vat Number organisation":"CY10016154J","Organisation country":"Cyprus","Geographical coordinates Organisation":"35.1660481,33.31494050863776","Organization URL":"https://www.unic.ac.cy/el/","Programme":"Erasmus +","Key Action":"Key Action 2- KA220-HED","Call":"Call 2022 Round 1 KA2 ","Role of University":"Coordinator","Total cost of project":"€400.000,00","EU Contribution":"Yes","EcContribution per partner":"Not available","Number of Participants":5},{"_id":38,"Project ID":"2022-1-CY01-KA220-HED-000086763","Project acronym":"LEADER AI","Status":"Completed","Title":"LEAarning analytics and AI for personaliseD lEaRning","Project URL":"https://leaderai.eu","Project URL 2":"Not available","Description":"LEADER AI developed a Toolkit with practical guidelines, scenario-based training, and an Interactive eLearning platform with digital resources on how HEIs can use AI-based and data-driven tools and approaches for personalised instruction.\nPilot implementation of these activities took place, while a Committee was established to support the success of the project. The unique features of the ICSE Science Factory are, in a nutshell: • New high-capacity cross-sectoral partnerships in five partner countries consisting of science researchers, science education researchers and non-formal education providers, supported by attached schools, enterprises and community institutions. • Innovative concept to enlarge the number of scientists and scientific knowledge in the communities: 1.To strengthen the partnerships, we organise local partnership conventions, where we share and apply research findings, and local public fairs to integrate communities in the scientific learning process. 2.With the expertise of the local cross-sectoral partnership, in each country we offer collaborative and interdisciplinary lighthouse activities and open schooling activities for community members (on health, digitalisation, Green Deal), supported by mentoring. 3. All activities are complemented by a series of interactive career talks, focussing especially but not only on female role models in science and on overcoming stereotypes. • An educational, research-backed concept for our lighthouse and open schooling activities which deliberately includes real-life problem-solving on issues relevant to society (including decision-making), and the concept of challenge-driven innovation, which integrates communities in overcoming challenges. •The activities are supplemented by special features: The setting up of stimulating science labs in each country, a threefold system for encouraging mentoring across the partnership and a systematic approach to quality assurance by using design research, which strives for solutions tailored to local communities based on a joint European concept.","Start date":"2023-01-01T00:00:00","End date":"2026-02-28T00:00:00","Organisation name":"Πανεπιστήμιο Λευκωσίας","Organisation name ENG":"University of Nicosia","Organisation ID":999577726,"Vat Number organisation":"CY10016154J","Organisation country":"Cyprus","Geographical coordinates Organisation":"35.1660481,33.31494050863776","Organization URL":"https://www.unic.ac.cy/el/","Programme":"Horizon","Key Action":"Horizon-REA","Call":"HORIZON-WIDERA-2022-ERA-01-70","Role of University":"Beneficiary","Total cost of project":"€1,980,507.50","EU Contribution":"Yes","EcContribution per partner":"Not available","Number of Participants":13},{"_id":41,"Project ID":"101101180","Project acronym":"GESEA4EU","Status":"Completed","Title":"Gynaecological Endoscopic Surgical Education and Assessment for Europe","Project URL":"https://gesea.eu/gesea4eu/","Project URL 2":"Not available","Description":"With the introduction of endoscopy, advanced imaging techniques and robotics, modern surgery is becoming increasingly more digital and requires adaptations to the educational model to address the demands for new skills as needed not only by surgeons but also by healthcare professionals in general. The increase in complexity that these developments bring, demands a well-oiled machine in the operating room, where surgeons, nurses and other supportive staff can operate in synergy and with increased efficiency. The GESEA Educational Programme has been well established and provides certification to gynaecological surgeons with more than 3,200 certificates issued to date. While certification and diploma modules of GESEA’s Educational Programme for gynaecological surgeons are standardised and implemented in Diploma Centres across Europe and beyond, the training itself is much less standardised. The aim of this project is to develop standardised learning modules applicable and recognised across Europe based on our consortium partners’ experiences. Furthermore, ESGE wishes to expand the scope of the programme to include training also for nurses and supporting non-clinical staff, including related industries. Endoscopy and robotics require a high level of skills and teamwork between all parties of the health workforce which can only be achieved through efficient and validated training. Lastly, standardisation of the training of the Trainers that will execute the programme is also primordial. During the scope of this project, 27 learning modules will be developed and trialled in 12 centres within the existing network. Furthermore, 9 new centres will be identified in Northern and Eastern Europe where the learning modules will be piloted. These modules will be taken up in the GESEA Educational Programme to be implemented across Europe, and will be promoted through the European Board & College of Obstetrics and Gynaecology as part of the EBCOG-PACT framework.","Start date":"2023-01-02T00:00:00","End date":"2025-01-31T00:00:00","Organisation name":"Πανεπιστήμιο Λευκωσίας","Organisation name ENG":"University of Nicosia","Organisation ID":999577726,"Vat Number organisation":"CY10016154J","Organisation country":"Cyprus","Geographical coordinates Organisation":"35.1660481,33.31494050863776","Organization URL":"https://www.unic.ac.cy/el/","Programme":"EU4H","Key Action":"Horizon Europe (2021–2027)","Call":"Doctoral Networks (Industrial or Joint Doctorates)","Role of University":"Beneficiary","Total cost of project":"€2,350,831.98","EU Contribution":"Yes","EcContribution per partner":"Not available","Number of Participants":18},{"_id":42,"Project ID":"101094658","Project acronym":"CAPONEU","Status":"In Progress","Title":"Democratic Education for Sustainability through Primary Teacher Education across Europe","Project URL":"https://www.caponeu.eu/","Project URL 2":"Not available","Description":"The project sets out to examine how people in different national and cultural contexts engage with contemporary political issues and thereby have their share in shaping European societies and politics in the 21st century. This is done through the prism of an extraordinary aesthetic and social phenomenon that we call the political novel in Europe (or PNE), which is gaining prominence not only in strictly delimited literary circles but in European societies at large. Given this new relevance of political writing, CAPONEU’s goal is to assess the political novel as an important element of the European cultural heritage and as a tool for community building and European advocacy. The consortium brings together an interdisciplinary research team that seeks not only to unpack the rich literary heritage of the 20th century but also (through collaboration with a wide range of actors) to make the PNE experiences relevant to our present. It allows us to understand how perceptions formed by different beliefs, values, traditions, economy, history, culture, age and gender are reflected in the PNE as a specific literary genre, and how and why this genre re-emerges as a social factor today. Thus, not only the representation of beliefs and traditions in the PNE will be analysed, but also the role of the PNE itself in shaping and changing perspectives on the individual, the state, the economy, and especially on Europe’s historical and cultural past. Aware that the European project has been destabilised in recent decades by crises (economic and political crises, migrations, the COVID-19 pandemic and climate change), the question now is how the European heritage of the EPN can become active in strengthening the resilience of European societies to crises. Given the simultaneous resurgence of various forms of populism and/or authoritarianism, a subsequent recession, and, most recently, war with unpredictable consequences, answering this question will be crucial for the future of Europe.","Start date":"2023-01-02T00:00:00","End date":"2027-01-31T00:00:00","Organisation name":"Πανεπιστήμιο Λευκωσίας","Organisation name ENG":"University of Nicosia","Organisation ID":999577726,"Vat Number organisation":"CY10016154J","Organisation country":"Cyprus","Geographical coordinates Organisation":"35.1660481,33.31494050863776","Organization URL":"https://www.unic.ac.cy/el/","Programme":"Horizon","Key Action":"Horizon-REA","Call":"HORIZON-CL2-2022-HERITAGE-01-03","Role of University":"Beneficiary","Total cost of project":"€1,864,789.00","EU Contribution":"Yes","EcContribution per partner":"Not available","Number of Participants":8},{"_id":43,"Project ID":"2022-2-IE01-KA220-VET-000098541","Project acronym":"MASS4GE","Status":"Completed","Title":"Increasing consultants’ capabilities to report on SME’s ESG status","Project URL":"https://mess4ge-project.eu/","Project URL 2":"Not available","Description":"The project MESS4GE will increase the capability of consultants to analyse companies’ activities and report qualitative information according to the ESG criteria (Environmental, Social & Governance). A big push towards online education, distance learning and virtual environments is evident across the globe. According to UNESCO (2020), as of late March 2020, over 850 million students and youth had to stay away from schools and universities due to the pandemic. School closures under COVID-19 presented a big problem for the lab component of STEM courses, especially for the Higher Education sector.\nSTEM-based education focuses on hands-on learning with real-world applications and helps develop a variety of 21st skills, including complex problem solving, creativity, critical thinking, participation, collaboration and digital literacy. Bringing STEM learning to the forefront of teaching and learning is a global and economic imperative. Recent reform and policy documents (i.e. OECD, 2019) have been focusing on STEM education as an essential component to prepare the workforce of the future. The world of science education currently faces the challenge of how students can complete lab work and engage in the aforementioned skills and competences without engaging in lab work. Therefore, the overarching goal of the project is to design and create online open-access interactive biology labs that can be used in Health Sciences as a way to substitute or support face-to-face lab experiences. Therefore, bringing STEM experiences to students in virtual ways, will allow students to gain access to realistic labs that enable them to perform experiments and achieve desired learning outcomes.","Start date":"2023-01-12T00:00:00","End date":"2025-11-30T00:00:00","Organisation name":"Πανεπιστήμιο Λευκωσίας","Organisation name ENG":"University of Nicosia","Organisation ID":999577726,"Vat Number organisation":"CY10016154J","Organisation country":"Cyprus","Geographical coordinates Organisation":"35.1660481,33.31494050863776","Organization URL":"https://www.unic.ac.cy/el/","Programme":"Erasmus+","Key Action":"Key Action 2- KA220-HED","Call":"Call 2023 Round 1 KA2 ","Role of University":"Coordinator","Total cost of project":"€250.000,00","EU Contribution":"Yes","EcContribution per partner":"Not available","Number of Participants":5},{"_id":59,"Project ID":"101128741","Project acronym":"HAWKING","Status":"In Progress","Title":"Harvesting (digital) Alternation in Ways that Knock-down Inaccessibility of New Generations","Project URL":"https://hawking.ucg.ac.me/","Project URL 2":"Not available","Description":"HAWKING is inspired by the life and accomplishments of the famous 20th century scientist in physics, Dr Steven Hawking, and his path to success despite the disability caused by Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) he was diagnosed with at the age of 22. In the Western Balkans countries, the number of SWDs is rising and so is the case with the need to use digital transformation and close the existing digital gaps for these groups of students. On average, 15% of students in the educational system lives with some form of physical disability (most of which are related to visual and hearing impairments, and mobility issues) whereas a number is over 20% when different mental disabilities are counted. The project shall in particular address limited existing collaboration practices between secondary and higher educational institution through digital tools and employment of new practices of digital According to the latest Digital Economy and Society Index, only 56% of Europeans have the basic digital skills (DESI,2022) whereas there is a gender imbalance at different levels and age groups in ICT related fields. Informatics Education is a powerful vehicle for meeting the set targets and developing the digital skills of all citizens. According to the Digital Education Action Plan 2021-2027, using innovative and motivating approaches to teaching informatics, can help develop skills in problem-solving, creativity, and collaboration and foster interest in STEM related careers while tackling gender stereotypes. Yet, informatics education is still fragmented with regards to its content and curricula, and the pedagogical approaches for teaching and assessing informatics across schools in Europe. The aims of the project are: • Promote the use of a pedagogical framework for teaching and assessing informatics on the grounds of authentic learning and contemporary gender inclusive practices, in upper primary and lower secondary education. • Prepare teachers to create authentic learning environments, following gender inclusive practices when teaching informatics. • Support mutual learning across Europe, to adopt evidence-based pedagogy in teaching and assessing informatics. • Engage policy makers across the EU in discussions about informatics teaching and assessment to improve teacher practices and digital skills in Europe. Physical activity has been shown to play a significant role in primary and secondary prevention of many chronic diseases, such as health benefits can be observed even with relatively minor physical activity volumes. Football is one of the world's most popular activities for youth, a sphere where they can acquire physical, mental, and educational skills, develop healthy habits, and build life-long friendships. In recent years, however, youth football has begun to face up to the myriad issues within its ranks that can compromise the health, safety, and integrity, driving youth organisations to measures for safeguarding and protecting their members from maltreatment. Despite its societal role and the fact that football provides physical and health benefits, youth football players are not exempt from mental health issues, and playing football does not make them immune to mental health challenges. TEAM aims to conduct evidence-based research amongst youth football on the challenges and effects of mental health and the need for mental well-being. The project will identify and map the general mental health issues/symptoms in youth football, and track and comprehend the level of awareness and knowledge of youth football players and staff in recognising and responding to mental health issues/symptoms. TEAM will introduce a Handbook to raise awareness, provide insights, and introduce good practices to the youth football stakeholders, practitioners, and policy-makers on how to recognize, respond and tackle youth mental health stigma. TEAM has a clear European added value with broad EU relevance, as it targets all 55 European members of the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA). The findings of this project involve and affect a variety of stakeholders such as citizens, the private sector, national authorities, European and international level authorities.","Start date":"2024-01-12T00:00:00","End date":"2027-01-06T00:00:00","Organisation name":"Πανεπιστήμιο Λευκωσίας","Organisation name ENG":"University of Nicosia","Organisation ID":999577726,"Vat Number organisation":"CY10016154J","Organisation country":"Cyprus","Geographical coordinates Organisation":"35.1660481,33.31494050863776","Organization URL":"https://www.unic.ac.cy/el/","Programme":"Erasmus+","Key Action":"Key Action 2 (KA2)-Cooperation Partnerships in Sport","Call":"ERASMUS-SPORT-2024-SCP","Role of University":"Coordinator","Total cost of project":"€400.000,00","EU Contribution":"Yes","EcContribution per partner":"Not available","Number of Participants":7},{"_id":72,"Project ID":"2024-1-PL01-KA220-HED-000243646","Project acronym":"Anti-burnout puzzle","Status":"In Progress","Title":"Anti-burnout puzzle for academics","Project URL":"https://uczelniakorczaka.pl/project/anti-burnout-puzzle-for-academics-anti-burnout-puzzle/","Project URL 2":"Not available","Description":"The project fits directly into the HE priority called: “Building inclusive higher education systems”. This is literally stated in the activities listed in the Erasmus+ guide in the area of this priority related to support to mental health of students and academics. Academics are a professional group whose responsibilities are very wide and diverse. On the one hand, the criteria for evaluating a work as a research and teaching employee concern scientific aspects: conducting innovative scientific research, publishing and presenting their results, popularizing scientific knowledge and cooperation with various environments and organizations. The requirements related to development and promotion opportunities are strictly defined, but also quite rigid, which is also an additional emotional burden factor for this professional group. On the other hand, in the practical dimension, academics devote a lot of time to didactic and administrative work, the scope of which increases each time along with changes in the area of higher education legislation. This specific conflict of roles that academics experience, the pressure of being evaluated and social exposure make it a profession that requires constant contact with a difficult recipient. These aspects are the main factors of strong stress and possible frustration.","Start date":"2024-01-11T00:00:00","End date":"2026-10-31T00:00:00","Organisation name":"Πανεπιστήμιο Λευκωσίας","Organisation name ENG":"University of Nicosia","Organisation ID":999577726,"Vat Number organisation":"CY10016154J","Organisation country":"Cyprus","Geographical coordinates Organisation":"35.1660481,33.31494050863776","Organization URL":"https://www.unic.ac.cy/el/","Programme":"Erasmus+","Key Action":"Key Action 2- KA220-HED","Call":"Call 2024 Round 1 KA2 ","Role of University":"Beneficiary","Total cost of project":"€120.000,00","EU Contribution":"Yes","EcContribution per partner":"Not available","Number of Participants":4},{"_id":73,"Project ID":"2024-1-PL01-KA220-HED-000254186","Project acronym":"iStream","Status":"In Progress","Title":"Higher Education programmes on Immersive journalism approach","Project URL":"TBA","Project URL 2":"Not available","Description":"The project aims at supporting higher education curriculum developers and university teachers (primary target group) in implementing a one year university study track on immersive journalism.
